Soon as I finished checking the notification from Amazon that everything is delivered I see a new notification that I have an update for my phone available. Android Lollipop, it's looking to be a pretty great day. Now I just have to go home and play with my new toys.

I know! Even worse, they're gateway drugs. I'm already making wishlists for all the lenses I want and the next camera I want to upgrade too as well as figuring out what support gear I'm going to buy to go with it.

My wife said this is my Christmas present. I need to get a bag and I just realized I don't have a sd card reader or the cable to connect it to my computer so I'm going to have to jerry rig something until I get a card reader. I need to get a bag and extra batteries as well.

Way to jump off the cliff! Congratulations.
We have Photography Kinja , I can't remember if you're on there or not.
You may want to look into this EF-S 24mm f/2.8 lens. I think video is mostly done with wide angle. It'll be a good lens if you find the 50mm isn't wide enough.

Video is shot with a lot of different lenses but yeah wide is used a lot. The most common theme with video is prime lenses. They use zoom lenses but only ones with a constant f-stop.
I'm trying to avoid the EF-S glass because eventually I want to get a full frame sensor and I don't want half my lenses to become useless. I'm eyeing the sigma 30mm 1.4 but that unfortunately is another crop sensor lens and the alternative I'm considering is the canon 28mm 1.8 which would be a proper full frame sensor lens. The big reason I'd consider the sigma is because it would let me shoot outside with less light.

The extra stop of light would help I'd bet. Canon has a couple of EF 24mm lenses, like this one . It's an f/2.8, but it has image stabilization, which would help.
Apparently the Tokina 11-16mm lens is really popular for video.
I can see what you mean about the EF-S lens becoming useless once you go full frame, but you can always keep the crop camera as a backup.
I haven't shot more than two videos with my setup, so I haven't experimented much.

I'm not super interested in image stabilization. I'd rather go with a faster lens. I need all the light I can get.

Makes sense. I doubt the IS on it is good enough to make up that many stops of light loss.
